Is It Too Late?

At 9:15 on Saturday evening, knowing I have to get up and go to church in the morning, and that at least one kid, and myself still need baths, this question runs through my mind.

Is it too late to watch Pride and Prejudice?

I’m afraid I know the answer. I’m afraid it’s not the smart choice.

What would you do?

Pokey Slow

Pokey Slow is one of Rebekah’s many nicknames. 100 bonus points to anyone who can guess why on earth that would be one of her nicknames.

She may also be called Bekah, Rebekah-lu, Bekah-lu, Bekah-boo, Ruta-bekah, Waddle-butt and my newest favorite, Lu-lu. It’s funny how we manage to come up with billions upon billions of nicknames for our babies, and they seem to grow into their given name at around three or four, rarely to be nicknamed again. Unless of course, it’s an abbreviated name. Bekah will likely stick. I suppose I won’t think it cute to call her Pokey Slow when she’s sixteen. I doubt she’d like me very much if I did. But gosh, I really like the name Pokey Slow!

I love this picture. It’s not exactly a great shot (camera phone), but it somehow captured that adorable little waddly walk that 18 month olds have. I love, love, love this walk. It’s on my list of favorite things. It just screams sweet kissable thighs, dimpled elbows, baby-fine hair, soft skin, tiny sneakers, baby laughter and all those things that seem to be gone from our babies way too soon.

Recommendation

My son’s seventh birthday was this past weekend, which I hope to post on soon (as well as my daughter’s 10th birthday a month ago! Ack!). He did, however, receive one present that I’m so excited about and thought I’d go ahead and recommend as soon as possible.

If you have a son, you need to buy this book!!

null

In this age of video games and cell phones, there must still be a place for knots, tree houses, and stories of incredible courage.

It’s full of great guy projects, things boys should know, and basically how to entertain yourself without video games or television!

So far, my son has made the best paper airplane he’s ever made, learned to play battleship using paper and a pencil, and poured over the information on how to make a bow and arrows. He’s drooling at the idea of building a go cart, studying the constellations, and reading about famous battles. He’s even learning Latin phrases and Shakespeare!!

Other things covered in this book are knot tying, how to play marbles, first aid, learning your states and capitals, Morse code, how to juggle, how to skip stones, making electromagnets, penlights, periscopes, navigating in the dark, how to hunt, skin, cook a rabbit (and tan it’s hide), coin tricks, information about the solar system, how to wrap packages….you name it. I’m just naming a few things. Anything a boy wants to know.

So, if you have a son, run, don’t walk, to the nearest bookstore and get this book! Your son will love you for it! And you’ll love that he’s not parked in front of the television all the time!!

**If you do not have a son, there is a companion book, The Daring Book for Girls. I haven’t read it yet, but I’m guessing it won’t be long before it’s a part of our household as well!

And here are two old posts on some of my favorite things:

My brand new Tiffany chandelier. Isn’t it lovely?

My husband hung this for me last week. He can be terribly handy to have around. I’m completely lovin’ it!

Okay, okay. I have a serious case of writer’s block. So I’m posting a picture of my sunglasses. Aren’t they the coolest? I love polka dots. I love pink. That makes these the coolest sunglasses in existence.

Now, was that blogging deep enough for you?

Psssst. I forgot to mention that these super-de-dooper-de cool Fossil sunglasses were also unbelieveably cheap! Woo hoo!

So what are your favorite things?? Hrmmm?
